Maybe they are keeping it alive for a reason. it was upgraded in 2015 to 2kbps from 1kbps, graphic capabilities were added and sms support if radio supports sms. It would be pretty easy to embed a computer control feature to shut an engine off if they chose to. they wouldn't need to rely on the onStar system. I can see a nefarious application if they choose to.
Chances are most of these cars have an XM downlink already, this is the more logical choice as satellite radio data can reach places there aren't any FM signals floating around.
All of it is interesting to me as I ponder the nefarious uses of technology and ways I could exploit it. I'm sure there are people alraedy exploiting it. thanks for the chat.
