Someone at IBM has forgotten that they built their reputation on supporting systems that were decades old. Enterprise Application Software is a long term investment and it requires a huge depth of support knowledge, you can't just throw a hundred Indians at an issue and expect it to get solved. Companies don't want to change their systems because just getting it installed tied up their IT department and heads of every department for an entire year. They don't care that it runs COBOL, it works fine.

This is a problem with the very way that investors approach computing; the monetary system. Even if a company is profitable, they don't want to invest in it for the long term. They want to pump and dump it, basically. They want IBM to be Instagram, or bust.
