In that link, you can see the video. That dude wound up that punch and waylayed the white kid. Pretty terrible.
The family should press charges and deal with the arrest threat.
“The family of the victim did want to press charges for this vicious attack and assault caught on video and witnessed by hundreds of people. The OCSD deputy told the family that if [my client] pressed charges then he would also be arrested for battery,” he said. “Only because of this threat did the family choose not to press charges.”
Local prosecutors later told him that the sheriff’s deputy was mistaken, he told The Post.
“From what I have heard they are still looking at it,” he said.
Here's what happened:
Black dude got in the way. White dude said to get out of the way.
Next lap around, black dude got in his face and impeded the race again. White dude pushed him.
Black dude then chased him down and sucker punched him.
White dude violated rule number one about being around blacks. And he paid the price.

I 100% agree that he should have done that the moment he decided pushing him out of the way was a good idea. He decided to escalate it to physical so he should have fully anticipated the sucker punch.
