Generations are not as simple as that. There are 20 years in a major generation arc. The last three years and first three years of two consecutive generations are a transitional sub gen. Then you have a 7 year "early" gen, followed by a seven year "late" gen. Early genX was from 1963-1969 Late genX was from 1970-1976 The "last generation" is a subgen from 1977-1982. Early millennial was 83-90 Late millennial was 91-97 Etc. These can be shortened or extended due to major world or cultural events, and are based on what the time and place you were 12-20 years old. Your major life shaping influences don't happen when you were born. They happen when you are a teen, and the influences that affected your older siblings, parents, and grandparents generations, as well as your urban density. Rural areas are slower to be influence newer things.
