What’s wrong with the good ol’ “RINO?”
Because it gives the other GOP a good out. The utility of a label is not to silence opposition. It's to legitimize further and stronger labels. Its a sort of 'forcing' of the narrative or window of discussion in one direction. And if you aren't actively pushing it right, then it will stray and ossify toward the left.
Which is why RINOs are able to escape by simply criticizing and grandstanding against other RINOs. The label ossified, like a gun that rusts for lack of use. New labels are a way of "oiling and maintaining the weapon" as it were.
Conservative Inc is very subtle though. Ultimately the out will be for them to claim to be "more progressive" republicans, either through their actual words or the policies they support. They just escape to the left (in practice and policy position), while no meaningful push on the right is made to purge these 'softer' elements from the party.
Just as a message, if it isn't explicitly right, becomes left, so too do labels and parties.
It is necessary to stand for something, but not sufficient. The GOP has been too chummy with the left for too long. Their excuse for escaping the 'chopping block' of public denunciation has always been "changing times / optics!". They've always stood for something, but never against anything in any meaningful capacity. "meaningful capacity" means not intentionally or conveniently failing any time they try to stop a new policy or social trend/social change started by the left.
A party that stands for something, but doesn't stand strongly against something, will never survive in the long term as anything but eventual pawns against any party that both stands for AND against something.
