Security system will alert me the moment they breach the perimeter. I will have full 2 min to suit up and arm before they even start fiddling with the door or windows. My bedroom is solidly fortified and can act as a safe room for my wife for I will go down and deal with them.
I had this situation twice over the last few years and I dealt with it myself. Now gangs are popping up and casing the places in my area, and this time I would prefer to have a layer of defence if it comes to that.
Before you ask, yes I called ZOG bots both times, and no they didn't show up at all or even do a followup call to see if we are still alive.

Sensitive topic for my situation, but in some fantasy scenario layout of my home would leave me in a situation where a long firearm would face restrictions and leave me to the possibility of getting rushed.
Ok. Well, without digging too deeply into your situation, I'll end by saying that there's a reason that most burgers don't focus on armor and focus on weapons. Without knowing your country, chainmail is decent for knife and bladed weapons, but there's no armor that can cover all issues. Whatever you decide to wear, make it easy to put on. In a stressful situation, reaction and coordination is messed up due to adrenaline. Keeping it simple is the best defense. It's one of the reasons that weapons like shotgun are popular in the US: larger spread of pellets means you don't need pinpoint accuracy when your stressed
