In most movies when I was a teen and still into movies, I had noticed a theme of forgiving cheaters, adulterers, every single scumbag in existence, etc. I never thought much about it, but not even the Bible preaches doing this. Forgiving lightens your load, not theirs, they know what they have done, and it eats away at them always, no reason to let it eat away at you too

I would say forgiveness is the #2 and #3 message of the Bible. Jesus died for your sins so that you might be forgiven. Forgiveness is a requirement of living a life inspired by the teachings of Jesus Christ. It should not allow others to continually sin against you.
