Needless to say the work he did was decent, it works so there's that, but the time it took and craftsmanship was ... shit to say the least. He didn't clean up after himself, there was wiring pieces and crap everywhere, and a one hour job took 4-5 hours, dragging the original estimated time out way longer than it should have been. Originally i envisioned a few hours of work, but it took this guy 2 days to wire out 15 outlets and 10 switches. Didn't pay him much for the favor, just wanted to gauge his work, and i terminated the friendship because he had a lot of other personal problems i simply didnt want to deal with. I didn't lose much out of it except time, but ive noticed im curtailing out all these idiot retards out of my life, simply dont have the time or patience t care to help them anymore, and my gf keeps me grounded enough to know i should know better now

Don't ever hire an addict.

Contractors here are or were...Addicts.

It's weird i payed the guy for his work, nominally, but even for the hundred bucks i gave him it felt like i was getting ripped off. On top of that his attitude was horrible, swore all the time, dragged me into his personal problems, etc

Are they licensed and insured?

Does your friend have much experience? If not, look at it this way... you've performed a good deed by helping him gain some experience.

Claimed to have 20+ years of experience doing electric work. Took him around 20 - 30 minutes per wall outlet and most of them were done alright, but nothing that couldn't be done faster or cleaner. A lot of it is him nitpicking small crap that doesn't matter

I replace plugs and switches on a regular basis, should take 5 minutes per, with some exceptions (broken/too short wires, GFI in a box that is also being used as a junction for lots of wires, etc).

Were you the guy asking if he should hire his recovering drug addicted friend for work?

yup, thats the one. I gauged him by paying him a hundred bucks. Needless to say ... his work was functional but the finish and quality was absolute crap

I used to do the same thing, which is where i came up with the advice I had given before. Just like if you want someone to never speak to you again, lend them 20-100 bucks. Thus is the cost of friendship.
