It's been a nightmare to maintain the thing. First the clutch went out at low miles, now the fuel regulator is busted. Not only that, most cars these days are made terrible, there's plastic everywhere, it rides horribly, and unless you want to spend a fortune, most people have to deal with it.

A few thoughts: 1. You should never buy a vehicle on it's first model year. It's just asking for trouble. 2. If you have the 3.5L, that is a minivan/camry engine and not a truck engine. You need to treat it as such. Don't accelerate in a gear that lugs it below 2k rpm. Don't let it drop below 2.5k rpm while towing or going up a grade. If you're in gear, it should never be below 1.5k rpm. You'll notice it actually makes better fuel mileage when you drive it this way. 3. I've seen bad drivers wreck a clutch in 2k miles on a new vehicle. All it takes is resting your foot on the clutch or any other bad habbits. 4. Toyota parts (mainly denso) and fluids are vastly superior to anything aftermarket. If you want the vehicle to be reliable and last into the 200k mile range only use toyota stuff. 5. Toyota corporate really cares about their reputation. If you're in the 40k mile range with several major repairs talk to the dealers and then corporate if you're unsatisfied. Look for related TSBs and they might fix it for free even if you're way out of warranty.

I've had a lot of experience with toyotas and they are solid vehicles with good support despite having way too much plastic. Most people don't do truck things with their tacomas, so your case might be a little unique if you're regularly using it for towing, hauling, and offroad.

Tacoma’s are generally pretty good. That’s 7 years old, were you the original owner?

One prior owner before me, clutch was destroyed at around the 40,000 mile mark
