Yeah me too, I've long suspected the aviation lobby to be all about selling proprietary spare parts, so they pretend planes need wings etc
Depends if the Plane requires aerofoils for extra lift, balance or stability. Although the vimana is similar in appearance to a dirigible/ airship, probably also quite impressive floating in the ocean. I suspect a hydrofoil or closed kayak in a wind tunnel would show satisfactory flying stability too.

The vimana is certainly capable to go under water, it's probably the first flying submarine
