I don't think it is any different than the one in 17 or the one that happened this past October. I think people just like seeing shit they don't see all the time. I think there's a planetary alignment and some comet that is going to be supposedly visible. All the doomsayers are just fucking retards. so I hold that shit with a grain of salt.
Personally, I like the Leonids more than eclipses but I haven't lived anywhere without light pollution to be able to see them in a very long time.
I have zero luck with watching meteor showers. I would wait up and just stare at the sky. Where I used to live we had a really awesome country airport that we could sit at and just stare with our unobstructed line of sight to the heavens. Of course people abused it and would party and shit so they closed it down for overnight astronomical stuff. Eclipses are nerve-wracking because all the text is a puffy cloud to get in the way and kill your day. I miss 17. I was in Texas for the the Ring of fire but what a pain in the ass and I'm sure this will be no different.
I lived out in a small town in northern Vermont for a few years. The Leonids were wild. They were so bright they'd reflect of the snow. My indoor only (deaf so very visual) cats would sit in the window and watch both the sky and the sparkles on the snow. The northern lights were very cool to see as well.
Out here in AZ I keep hoping for aliens when I'm plane watching ;) but I'm in the city so probably not.
People are doomsaying about a dumb old eclipse? I mean sure it'll be an amazing sight to see and everyone around should take time to look, but come on now let's not get all Jack Van Impe about it.
There's always a group that says every astrological event is going to be the end of humanity. Remember those people if you were around back then about 30 years ago who took cyanide or something during the hale bop encounter?
