It makes sense. Many of the prominent tropes from movies and games seem to indicate that Japanese ninjas sucked at what they're supposed to be doing, the fuckers all dress in the same conspicuous and recognizable clothes, they all would get into all of these open conflicts where they're out numbered twenty to one, or they end up getting the jump on someone while at a significant numerical advantage but then they get their asses handed to them by an old guy with a cane.
