You can test the radon levels of your house for pretty cheap.

I just put down one in my current house, the one I am considering buying has a Radon System.

The property I just bought has a Radon System in it, but the fact that it needs one is a bit annoying but I think its quite common. My sensor puts my levels lower than the national average so it should be alright.
