I developed a new method for creating a good quantity of ice this summer.

Take a large stainless steel mixing bowl, fill it up with water and put it in the freezer.

When it freezes:

  • Use a sharp knife + small mallet to chisel the ice into chanks of whatever size you want.

  • Put the chunks of ice into bags / plastic containers in the freezer.

The round stainless steel bowls are great for ice making because as the ice freezes it expands and the round shape of the bowl directs the ice upward so nothing breaks.

It was really nice have a VERY LARGE supply of ice last summer. It's also really nice have very large chunks of ice in your drink instead of those stupid tiny cubes.

A knife? Get an ice pick and an ice bucket. This was actually the common way of ice up until the late 60s.
