Oh no argument. Way cheaper too. But when your camping or in a rush, those packets can be handy. Camping especially. Freeze dried stuff in general is awesome for it

I don't like fake potatoes much, but they are handy while camping with a big group. My favorite though is slicing a potato in half and hollowing out a small place in both halves to hold some butter. Put the halves back together and wrap with aluminum foil. When the fire goes out for the night bury the taters in the coals. When you wake up you got a delicious buttered potato waiting for you.

That's a great idea actually. Wonder how well that would work on my coal Webber grill. We usually seal it when done to preserve the coal, but that might work for potatoes too
