It's more or less a Pine Rock64 board.
There's an Ambian build for it: https://www.armbian.com/rock64/
Here's the mfg page: https://www.pine64.org/devices/single-board-computers/rock64/
While the Armbian support isn't anywhere near as deep as Raspbian, I've found it generally to be useful for the experienced GNU/Linux user. It's not something I'd suggest for your first project, but your third or fourth, no problem at all. That's not to say it's not a competent build, it's just more for those who already have some battle scars.
And, most of what you find, instruction-wise, for Raspbian works with little or no modification on Armbian.
That sounds good, I know I could use any linux image as long as it had an aarch64 arch available, the boot process would be of more concern since it's not standardized like on a PC
That portion of the system is not really something I've delved into. I've generally stuck with pre-built things. The workings of the kernel and whatnot seem to escape me more the older I get.
