It’s early to get excited and such, but I can’t help it. First time. Any tips on helping her stay comfortable? Poor lady is exhausted and aching.

Just had my 3rd last month. Supplement with magnesium glycinate (helps with calcium absorption, 1st trimester nausea, and charlie horses which happen further along in the pregnancy). Also, eat liver or take dessicated liver capsules. Definitely take cod liver oil during the winter.

Now is the time to splurge on organic stuff if you don't already. You want to reduce her exposure to pesticides as much as possible.

Use a midwife and/or birthing center. Avoid hospitals. If you plan on being super involved in labor, take a Bradley birth class. Mama Natural has an online birth class that I hear is pretty good. She should read Ina May's Guide to Childbirth and also read positive birth stories. You may want to consider hiring a doula to help her during labor.

Labor tips: hot shower and birth tub was helpful for relaxing and relief. Also, horsey lips (blowing air between your lips vibrsting them like a horse) during contractions helped tremendously. The body doesn't process pain and vibration well at the same time so the horsey lips dulls the pain a bit.

You want to avoid episiotomies, childhood vaccines (say no to hep B at birth), eye ointment, vit K injection (get oral vitamin K), circumcision.

You definitely want to do delayed cord clamping and may want to consider placenta encapsulation.

Towards the third trimester, pay attention to baby positioning. If baby is malpositioned, don't think you must get a csection, try spinning babies (just look it up) to find exercises you can do to reposition baby. I used a Webster certified chiro and spinning babies to flip my 3rd who was breech at 36 weeks.

When baby is born, you really want the midwife and your pediatrician (find a vaccine choice friendly pediatrician now) to check for lip and tongue ties which can negatively impact nursing (and lead to other problems down the road).

We do a combo of cloth diapers and disposables (when going out) and having cloth diapers was awesome when all those shortages hit hard in 2020.

Mendelsohn's "How to raise a healthy child in spite of your doctor" is a great read. If you can, try to connect with other hollistic moms and families. And if possible, have extended familiy you love and trust nearby. Raising kids is so much better with a bit of help from relatives. We are states away from family and those few times a year we see family are sooo relieving because my husband and I can get a break while my children make cherished memories with their grandparents.

And after the baby is born and mom is nursing, mom's libido may drop and vaginal dryness occurs because of the nursing hormones. Nursing is mother nature's birth control. Use lube when having sex again postpartum.

Honestly, there's so much to share. It may seem overwhelming when you don't know anything about pregnancy and childbirth so feel free to reach out if you have questions.
