The U.S. Supreme Court has consistently upheld the federal government's jurisdiction over immigration law. SCOTUS has overruled attempts by state legislatures to single out immigrants. The Supremacy Clause of the U.S. Constitution generally means that federal laws trump state laws.

I guess that's the "told you so" confederate moment among civil war ghosts in US graveyards...

Secession is the way I think, whether in europe or the US it's going to be a thing, it's even going to be a thing at individual and/or "community" level, either officially or otherwise. Anyways if nothing of the sort gets done it's still going to end pretty much that way, practically speaking. And when that happens the nation will likely break apart, leading to exodus and/or civil war. I mean you can't just put random people in a given place, people with nothing or barely anything in common other than contempt for each others eventually, and expect that to be a nation or the republic/regime allowing it to happen to not collapse. It's kind of self evident, it's like a football team made of players who barely can stand each others and they all work for another team... It can only apparently work for a little while, it's not going to take long before some start scoring against the team and rules turn to MMA

Agreed. Many people had the same concerns when the Constitution was up for ratification. They were rightly worried.

Constitutionally they are required to enforce it. Failure to enforce is illegal. In this case, they are aiding an invader. Likewise, it protection transfers back to the states for enforcement.

SCOTUS may criminally rule to maintain the status quo under the guise of immigration. Which would officially declare themselves traitors. But states have the right to maintain their border. Up to and including militia to shoot on sight. Additionally,, anyone aiding an invasion is a traitor per the Constitution and federal law. Invaders and anyone aiding or sheltering may be shot on sight.
