I can't think of any reasons not to move to Texas (yet) but if the D's get permanent control of the Fed gov't then Texas should consider becoming it's own country.

A lot of the stories where the bad buys take the room temperature challenge by average people seem to be from Texas. Capital punishment ends the worst criminals. No state tax is awesome. A whole bunch of land that can still be bought relatively cheaply.
I have yet to test it, but I bet if I went around any bunch of people and yelled out "The stars at night, are big and bright" I'm sure the people would clap and complete the song.

When was in Dallas I met a Tejano, he is hispanic, but his family has owned land in the region since before the war between the states. He hates mexicans more than I could as they killed an honored ancestor. He's luke warm on the USA, but would defend Texas, i believed him.
