It seems like this is becoming a popular tactic. Don't like being forced to be part of a blue city? Well, vote to make your own. In this case, the city had been annexed by Austin and it pissed off the people living there then.. now they are "taking it back". If this can be done nation wide at every blue major city it could re-draw voting lines/roles quickly. Large blue cities will instantly lose massive amounts of tax dollars while also losing control of the cities surrounding them. Then, new policies can be created that are counter to the blue/progressive hellholes that be used to slowly push on the "big city".

From the post:

>A wealthy Austin neighborhood has 'given the finger' to the state's capital and voted en masse to leave the city amid a spiraling crime crisis. Lost Creek, a rich enclave in the west side of Austin, saw an overwhelming majority of 91 percent of residents vote to break away from the city during a May 4 election. Many never wanted to be part of City of Austin to begin with when it was annexed nine years ago in 2015.

I'm sure the "racist" moniker is on their fat lips as we speak.
