My big goal this year is to prepare the house for NativeJR. Which is going to be pretty ambitious as MRS. Native wants to put in completely new floors which is going to be a massive job.

I also want to get about 50 quail, so will need to build them a completely new pen and set up fortunately that shouldn’t be too difficult I don’t think.

I would also like to grow bunnies and that will be a lot of work because you have to make several pens to separate the men and the women and the babies since rabbits are pretty violet and will kill the babies if you aren’t careful.

I’m hoping for a great harvest on garlic (which I already planted) and hoping my three rhubarb plants will take off this year.

Basically home renovations is the big thing. I cut down my booze a lot and it’s basically just once a month now and I’m hoping to cut it back to just special events this coming year.

I also want to focus on cutting down my debt, it jumped up quite a bit and my household is now just a one income family so we have to be more careful with money. Though if the rabbits and quail take off this year, that should really save a lot of money on meat.

The food isn’t that expensive for them. Tell you what though, gardening is $$$ buying good soil is NOT cheap.

What is everyone else looking forward to?

Great to hear about all your life progress, man. Quail sounds amazing. They sound so much quieter and easier to raise than chickens.

I'm looking to get into crawdad trapping this year. I haven't had much luck with fishing (angling) yet, probably due to not putting enough time in to master it. Crawdad trapping looks easy, and can be done from almost any inland river.

I had to stop and think about that I want to accomplish this year. Last year was a huge success with getting married and landing new jobs. I've also identified an area in the countryside that I want to move to long term. Its mostly white, conservative, and has cheap land. While I have no regrets about buying my starter home, I don't have a backyard I can garden on and would like to change that. Plus I need to get away from this liberal city that keeps begging for calamity.

Hold on to that new job

I've landed a good new job that pays welll and doesn't seem to stressful. They're letting me work from home permanently. I need to hold on to that, and not let my resume start to look bad from too much job hopping. Plus I need to further build a reputation as a successful remote worker, so I can live anywhere.

Personal Finance

My long term goal is early retirement, I'll need to keep actively working on it every year for it to happen. There are a few things I'm setting as goals for this:

-Read one personal finance book. This has been sort of an afterthought in my mind to read on finance book per year, but it hasn't been happening consistently since I didn't formally set it as a goal. I just ordered my copy of The Millionaire Next Door.

-Get my wife set up with an appropriate investment account. This will help her contribute towards our shared retirement. (And protect my assets if things go wrong)

-Refinance the home if it makes sense to do so.

Take a proper vacation

I had a "covid wedding" and didn't take a proper honeymoon after. Need to take care of that before too much time slips by.

Continue studies

Spiritual, career/finance and classic TRP material. They were right when they said that getting married makes it harder to keep frame, so I gotta keep the saw sharp!

Crawdad trapping looks easy

This is exactly the way to go! Don't follow the trends, obviously not as many are crawfish trapping so you can easily corner that market. It's the same concept I have with the quail, very few people raise them, so I can corner that little world and figure out the kinks and maybe a small profit or at minimum make myself sustainable.

I've landed a good new job that pays welll and doesn't seem to stressful.

The less stressful part is important, I've turned down a handful of job offers/promotions in the last few years because I didn't want the stress. When I finally accepted a new position here comes the stress and it's turned a fun job into a chore. That's life.

Refinance the home if it makes sense to do so

One piece of advice I can give you on this, mortgage rates have never been lower and they will start creeping back up this year. So if you have the opportunity to get a lower fixed interest, do it sooner than later.

It sounds like you have a wonderful year! Are you and the wife looking to start a family for this year? It's never to early to try ;-)

You have a good point about the interest rates!

Thanks. Family life is not for me. I don't think I can handle the all the work and stress. I just want to escape working for the man and chill.

Family life not for you? You may not realize what you craved till you do it.

Men are built to adapt to difficulties. You’ll be fine, you simply underestimate your capability
