Lift with your legs whenever possible. I knew quite a few older guys who warned me of how serious back injury and back pain can be. That's my brow beating for the day. Self improvement is definitely the thing to focus on whenever possible.
My mistake was a gym injury doing dead lifts. I’ll never do those ever again and I will never recommend it for anyone. It will haunt me all my life now. Nearly all gym injuries are dead lifts
Sucks to read that you're injured in the gym, but it's great to read that you're not ignoring your body when it tells you that something is wrong. Does your physician given you a hernia check during your annual physical?
