Fwiw... I home-schooled my two youngest through 7th grade, out of necessity...the school district we were in was almost 60% black, and was ranked in the bottom 5% in the state. When I got to a conservative-leaning town that was over 90% white, I put them in public school so they could develop social skills, and as they were musically inclined, they joined the school band programs. I stayed on top of the situation. The kids and I talked daily about their classes and what was being taught. I knew what their GPAs were at all times. Both children were at the top of their classes, with very few social problems. The youngest graduated valedictorian.
