He was the first Republican Party POTUS and had to take unusual and extraordinary measures during his Presidency to save the nation and bind its wounds.

He may not have been our modern day definition of a true conservative but he is considered the very first Republican POTUS. This has been historical fact for 160 years.

In a weird way, yes. The South seceded first. Then fired on Fort Sumpter. Lincoln invaded and regained occupied territory.

Yes but he divided the North and South when he easily could have avoided it. He was the first president elected not from one of the original 13 colonies and his diplomacy was weak, stupid and caused a massive and unnecessary civil war.

Are you a southerner from a proud old southern family? Your reasoning makes me think you are! Lol! I can understand your opinion better if this is the case.

Basically yes. Southern roots in the mid west after my family left Norway when I was a little kid. My father was an American military man.
