I suppose it can be addressed by third parties keeping records of how many people vote. Having it decentralized makes it easier to audit on a local level.

I had always been philosophically opposed to mandatory voting, but now I see there may be some logic to it. If everyone is required to turn up and cast a vote there's not much wiggle room for fraudsters.
