You can absolutely still get your CDL. Which companies will hire you is a different story. Commercial truck insurance is much higher than your run of the mill auto insurance and increases heavily with infractions. So some companies won't touch you depending on how recent it is.
What were you doing? 30 over?
With that said, there are plenty of second chance companies you could drive for. The pay isn't going to be anywhere close to what you will peak at but you won't have to stay there long granted you keep a clean driving record and it will still be better pay than most people straight out of college.
If you're considering getting your CDL, go ahead and do it because you basically have to "pay your dues" by working for one of those companies anyway to get some experience under your belt. Within a year or two, you can go damn near anywhere and make $80,000+/yr. GP Transco is starting at $90,000/yr with 1 year experience for example and most LTLs are paying 6 figures while also being able to go home every night.
When you take the written test, get every endorsement you can. Tankers, doubles (triples depending on where you live/drive) hazmat, etc. If you want, I'll PM you an app for study that has the question/answer bank word for word.
That's the best part of a CDL. I can quit my job today, another company will already have me a car rented and hotel booked for orientation Monday, and pay me for coming.
Edit: Also, not sure how long ago it happened, but most companies only look back 3-5 years. You can even get a CDL with a DUI on your record. If you have two DUIs, you aren't allowed to have a CDL anymore. Supposedly there is a process that you could possibly still obtain one but it sounds like a literal act of Congress from what I've read.
