Went to see his home and the bed where he died.

If you're ever in northwestern Virginia, visit Thomas Jackson's Headquarters in Winchester. You'll get a personal guided tour, some amazing history, and a better insight into how different things were back then. Better. "Tough times" men compared to these pussified men today.

Unbelievably different.

My kids might have seen that, in Winchester, they've been everywhere. I don't recall myself seeing it, would be wonderful.

That would be quite an experience.

Yes, very solemn. Such a small bed, with a few things on the bed stand. Maybe a washing basin.

We belong to the same (basically) church as him, but he's American Presbyterian and I'm Scottish (where it was started by John Knox and where Trump's mom was a member, and where I visited a while back).

We have the same family worship to this day (required if you're a member of that church) that he did, and the lady guide pointed to the room where the Jackson family held their brief family worship 'service' every night at seven sharp.

The door was shut fast and nobody entered after seven, and all the servants were required to attend as well.

Man, he was strict as they come. "Thanks doc, I always wanted to die on the Sabbath." "No doc, no morphine, I want to keep a clear mind."

Thanks for the reminder, will never forget (also saw Lincoln's deathbed and Ford's theater).

Very interesting. Thanks for sharing that.

I'm not so well traveled. I read 'Stonewall' quite some time ago. That left a lasting impression. I just happen to be reading a biography of Robert .E. Lee. and have just finished a chapter that included Jackson's death. Quite timely really. Hence the (humble) tribute.
