If you are around large predators, do NOT depend on a handgun. They do not hit hard enough and can be unreliable. Get a fucking semi-auto rifle or shotgun large caliber like an AR10 or a mossberg 940 tactical shotgun. You can magdump a 9 or 10mm into a Bear and still get killed. You can blast a fucking bear with intermediate rounds and it will keep coming. .300 Win Mag is the smallest I would trust my life with. .270 is adequate but if you have ever dealt with a big brown bear you won’t fucking waste your time. They MOVE and have no fear. They will fucking eat you alive like nothing. Trust me, get a 12ga semi-auto with brenneke slugs and do not fuck around with a handgun. Dudes with 10mms get killed thinking it’s enough. It’s not. They have a ton of skin, fat and bone and you do not have time to screw around. By the time you see a Bear it’s already very late.
Sounds like fuddlore. Plenty of data showing even small-caliber handguns are effective most of the time:
Not an animal alive that has bulletproof hide or bones, and none on land that have 15" of blubber to stop a round. As always, shot placement is more important than caliber, and accuracy is most easily achieved through volume of fire. Mag size will serve you better than muzzle energy per bullet.
That’s funny. All my data came from Western states and Alaska with actual cases of Bear attack encounters. Since the increase in Brown Bear attacks over the last decade anyone in the outdoors doace knows about and discusses. Considering my Uncle is a hunting guide around Idaho, maybe it is just fuddlore about the actual dead people with 10mm pistols who shot the Brown Bear and still died. Idk man. Maybe Steven Rinella was just overhyping it amd had game wardens on to trick us you’re right dude.
