I read, and believe, that many of those people were arrested in the following months. I would like to know how they fared in court.
I don't think that stopping by force or threat of force the government from denying somebody else's rights is a recognized justification for behaviors in question. Maybe we could get that passed as a law. Call your congresman lol.
