Several towns/cities along rivers have 'charity races' where people 'buy' a numbered plastic duck, and then the are dumped off a bridge. Then the 'owners' of the first ducks across the finish line get a prize. I imagine not all the ducks get removed and go feral.

Yep, happened in the place I grew up once a year. It's amazing that people bitch about pollution and then get together and throw plastic in the river. YAY humans.
