In over 20 years of Unix system administration, I have worked with many women sysadmins. In all that time, I have worked with ONE who was competent, and she still wasn't required to work the off hours that the men were.

I was looking after a main site, one huge remote site and three remote factory units, and I knew blokes who managed way more than that on their own (bigger budget though)
I've not met a female Engineer since Uni, but I presume they exist somewhere
