In some small way, he's right, we don't know. We extrapolate based on the minimal testing and the fact that this technology has never worked before. We can safely assume that it's a bad thing.
Now that it's had some runtime and we can see that bad things are happening, we add them to the data set and can say we see now that it's looking bad.
It's the same with a software update for my computer or a medication for my body. Unless you can prove to me that it has a known benefit without a really bad side effect, I'm going to wait. In this case, waiting helped as we can see the injections aren't worth the saline they're made with.
