Yeah, I'll second this. That looks to me like either a wolf spider, or a house spider. Either way, it eats the things that want to eat you; Good to have around. If it's a wolf spider, it can see you very well and knows you're not food. As long as you don't piss it off, it will leave you well alone.

Yep. Jumping spiders come immediately to mind for me. I used to bring them into the house, after playing with them for a bit, and let them loose. Later when I'd find them again, I'd play with them using a laser pointer. Red light worked pretty good to get them to follow it, but they went nuts over the green one. I later learned that they are the only spider that is known to be able to see colors, and that their intelligence is not far below that of an octopus.
