Notepad++ has been off the rails for a while now. They've been letting CIA do DLL hijacking for years. Users noticed the issue back in the 7.x.x versions. They claimed to fix it in a later 7.x.x version, but as recently as 8.5.4 users noticed the DLL hack wasn't fixed. They never had plans to fix it and they never will fix it. Fact is they can't fix it without completely rewriting the code base.
is a really good editor. It's paid but you can download for free and the evaluation period has no time limit.
Sublime Text may be downloaded and evaluated for free, however a license must be purchased for continued use. There is currently no enforced time limit for the evaluation.
I just downloaded PSPad. It looks promising. It seems to be very similar in function to notepad++, so I'll see how it goes.
