it's just another one of many coronaviruses
Not really, because all the other coronaviruses are seasonal viruses, they mutate fast enough to evade immunity every few months. With SARS-CoV-2, we see almost no reinfections - just some hundreds or thousands with compromized or suppressed immune system, but not the millions expected.
None of what you said challenges the veracity of the statement you quoted. It's a coronavirus, and it's one of many. That it has some different properties doesn't make the duck not a duck.
There is still a difference that is important: While we can do nothing against most coronaviruses than just waiting until they are gone or have killed us, this coronavirus has its weakness against a dozen medications. Denying that this virus is special is denying that we have the cures.
Some people even need the help of lawyers and courts to get a treatment because everybody refuses to acknowledge that there are treatments. One example:
Yes, there are treatments. But let me ask this: Has anyone really studied these same treatments against "the common cold?"
