Never prepared or eaten turnips like this before. The turnips were prepared and served just as mashed potatoes would. I used a couple of red potatoes to add a bit of starch, per the recipe I followed, but I'd likely use russet the next time around. The taste was great but they were just a bit too soft and watery for my liking.

They were used as a base for some lingonberry braised authentic German bratwursts. I've always thought the scandinavians were a bit loopy with combining meat with a jam. They're loopy for other reasons but I at least get the lingonberry obsession now.

Meat with jam is amazing - we like to do a fresh homemade cranberry compote or jam with ham, turkey, brie, just about anything. We also do blackberry with sausages as well.

Mashed turnips, man that is some good stuff right there. Might you try mashed rutabaga as well - nothing like it

I don't think I've ever had homemade cranberry jam with any sort of meat. Growing up I've only ever really seen the glob of garbage that comes out of a can.

Saw the rutabaga there by the turnips and thought about it for a second. I'll give that a go next time I decide to make some mash. Thanks for the tip. I used to eat turnips whole when I was a kid but I can't say I've ever had rutabaga prepared in any way.

it's a sweeter flesh - they can take some time to prepare and I like mine a little lumpy which works well for ruta's - i will typically add ruta with potato for my mash so it's neither too starchy nor too sweet.

Good to know and thanks. I'll have to give them a go the next time around since I like mash on the lumpy side.

Never had turnips. I like trying new stuff, but IDK why but my imagination makes me think it would be gross.

Turnips are awesome. Grab one the next time you're at the store. Give it a wash and take a bite.

I had a burger recently it, I think it was at work week Wendy's, it had bacon jam on it at that shit was amazing.

Can't say that I've had bacon jam but I've seen it on many menus. I'm sure it's good but it just sounds wrong. Just like topping peanut butter onto a burger.

I thought it sounded wrong too but I thought what the hell and it was a game changer. You know how there is that part on ribs that is so sweet it tastes like pork candy? It tastes like that and it had me wanting to make some.

That makes sense. I've had some "candied bacon" before and it was pretty damn good.

Did you end up making bacon jam?

Localish pub house burger I had was a bacon cheeseburger, with peanut butter and fresh jalapeños under the patty. Sounds weird but was amazing. Sweet/ salty/ spicy crunch. I took a nap right after, ha!

It sounds bad but but I can't bring myself to having a burger slathered in peanut butter. That being said, I like Thai food.

That sounds wonderful. Good experiment
