I don't know if using one of the most morally bankrupt institutions in the world, Hollywood, is a good idea here. Hollywood only did what it could get away with, there wasn't any kind of altruism present there, ever. The only reason there isn't direct pedophile sex in movies is because they can't get away with it - yet.
The 90s were the period where the country really started to go downhill. Political correctness, as wokeism was called, was picking up. Businesses became more concerned with their mission statement than making product, and started to ship it all to China for an extra cent. Clinton cancelled Glass-Steagall. Without a unified enemy to be against, the USA floundered on the world stage.
The United States hasn't been a model for far longer than you think, it was just covered up well.
Up until the late 90s hollywood was probably the best asset america had to export itself, that's the vector through which american propaganda/mass brainwashing/marketing campaign was carried out at home and abroad. To this day it's still a very powerful softpower weapon/asset, but not anywhere near as powerful as it used to be a few decades ago; people are noticing
And yes the 90s were really the apogee, starting with 2001 everything went downhill as fast as the WTC; symbolically speaking, to me, that event marks/represents the hijacking of the american gov and the subsequent controlled demolition of america
