I think they're are trying to hit china and the "non aligned" producing countries with this, by tanking the (western) demand on purpose Kind of like suddenly pulling the breaks on your vehicle because you know it's going to badly damage the vehicle behind. Yours will be damaged too but less critically and you know it Maybe they want to force them into debt so they can control/racket/extort them better, and they use "us" as vehicle for that, "us" the already debt controlled countries under their direct influence
