Except it wasn't a spill. It was a bomb.
Early reports confirm nothing was spilled and the environmental damage was purposely created by explosives planted on the cars.
This is a terrorist chemical attack.
What about the surveillance video footage of the wheels on fire a few miles ahead of where it derailed? That seems a much more likely explanation to me for why the train derailed. I have not heard any reports of any local residents saying they heard an explosion / bomb. They do report hearing the derailment.
Early reports confirm...
Any sauce for this pasta you're serving?
They fire was ignored. They have wheel, axel, brake temp sensors onboard. They knew it was on fire and ignored it. Temps would clearly reflect this. The actual cause of derailment remains unknown. A fire doesn't derail cars.
Example of article this morning on blasting cap found 1.4 miles from area. It's burned and scorched.
They have officially acknowledged they started the fires. In reality, they blasted them to rupture the storage tanks because none were leaking. This was "justified" because the vessels "were building pressure" for unknown and indeterminate reasons. For which we only have their word. And no ready available means to measure that pressure.
I'll try to find some of the stuff I've been reading.

A wheel fire can cause break lines to melt and then breaks sieze causing derailment.
They knew it was on fire and ignored it
Yeah it looks that way to me too. My understanding is that the locomotive engineers were instructed to push forward to Conway (I think that's the town name) where the railroad company has more access for maintenance. But the train derailed before it got there. I don't know why they decided to burn the contents of the derailed cars , it seems like a horrible decision, with many other less-impactful options ignored. I like the fact that independent journalists are in the town, making their own interviews with locals. We have much more information of the situation because of their reporting.
