Nice.

This is what nasa means when they don't really have the means to immediately get to moon without reinventing everything.

Everything they used to get there was like this but even more ancient.

With modern tech, they'd obviously be starting over.

Old keyboards have synth sounds that you can't really replicate. Some sounds, without a major undertaking, will probably never sound that way again.

And thanks to Clinton, much of production went offshore.

Trash? NOOOOO! Put that stuff on eBay or Craigslist. I hate to see tech stuff like this disappear forever since it still has uses and many people would love to have it.

If I can find someone to take it.

It's gold. Retro electronics are super hot on eBay right now. I paid good money for a Willem programmer and one of those cheap UV erasers from Amazon, so I could make cartridges for old 8-bit computers. I use Osh Park to make the boards from Gerber files, but I have to program the EPROMs myself using ROM data from the Internet Archives. A working EPROM programmer can net you around $50. The eraser is worth more, those old erasers are highly sought-after.

I'd take it off your hands, but I don't want to dox you or me in the process. It's not safe to be a Poal user who lets the real world bleed into what they do on a site like this. Hopefully someone who doesn't know you're a government built spy bird-drone can give it a good home without ending up on some special government list.

Hmm, when you become obsolete, will this be your fate too?

If you have a work address or something, we can set up a fake name and I’ll just mail it to you.

OMG. What a blast from the past! I bet some of my old EPROMs and EEPROMs are still in use.

Today, of course, the u-controllers are about the same size as a single EPROM device.

size

All you fags think about is size!

Blast from the past like it was just yesterday! In the early 1980s we were often building our own ATE (because there were no off the shelf solutions available at the time) and occasionally used EPROMS, etc. in the design. We had a few programmers, eventually created loadboard/fixture/software solutions on our existing ATE to automate the process and remove as much human error as possible. I think all of our old programmers/board stuff went in the trash by 1995 ... or was sent offshore with "downsizing" as a result of Bill Clinton opening the doors to offshoring our sacred Mil/Aero manufacturing ... fuck National security. I voted for Ross Perot in 1992 BTW.

I pull those from old machines because they are still useful.

[–] 1 pt

This is what birds are made of?

[–] 1 pt

I still use those, I'm so jealous of all the stuff you can still get in the USA for jellybeans

it's annoying trying to find retro programming hardware, because the people who do factory clear outs, never take the flipping interface cards out of the flipping PC's, so they are all utterly useless without those. (although the OEM design shouldn't have used a custom interface in the first place I guess...)

Like that Hi-Lo Systems Programmer ALL-03A you've got there, it needs an interface card, it would be like unicorn gold if you'd had that too

You should definitely put that on ebay btw, go look up the prices for those things...

[–] 1 pt

Well....I have the computer it was connected to on the "to scrap" pile. I will check and see if the card is still there.

[–] 1 pt

looks like this

[–] 1 pt

Interesting, looks like a parallel port card. It may have been removed before I got hold of the machine, but I will check tomorrow and let you know.

That Dallas stuff is "fat RAM" where it has a battery built into the package to preserve static RAM.

[–] 1 pt

I think these were the old Dallas RTC chips. I'll have to look a little closer.

Nooooo! Dude, I spent nearly a hundred bucks in 2020 reacquiring the capability to program and erase 2764-27256 EPROMs. Seeing pretty much the whole kit 'n' kaboodle sitting on your curb gives me a sad.

You want? Will send to you.

Thanks but I'm set now. But if I'd seen this two years ago I'd have sent you a prepaid shipping label for it. Definitely at least put it on Craigslist, it's still useful to a bunch of hobbyists.

[–] 1 pt

Yeah , many have said keep it. I will shove it in a box in the hopes someone can use it.

[–] 0 pt

Where is all this cool stuff coming from?

[–] 0 pt

The EPROM stuff is leftover from old projects the company supported. The material sciences stuff was items the founder had from his lab days.

It's all a former employer's junk, they went out of business and I'm helping clean out the building since I have a clue as to what it is.

[–] 1 pt

Any luck selling any of this stuff on eBay for some real dollars?

[–] 0 pt

I don't bother with fleebay these days. It's more hassle than it's worth.
