Ignoring the fact that these devices were designed to spy on you and gather data to sell it... The CIA gave a $600m contract to Amazon, coincidentally about the same time that they began pushing smart devices heavily. If you leave all that information aside, the IoT (Internet of Things) is just a train wreck from a security standpoint. You don't need a refrigerator with internet access and a touch screen. Once they stop issuing updates and patches for it 18 months from now, the thing is going to become a botnet. This has happened over and over and over and over with all kinds of internet-connected devices. Anyone who continues to buy this crap is not paying attention to the problem. And anyone who knows about security doesn't have any of that crap anywhere near them.
