I wanted ring for the home myself, but I decided against it. I couldn't stand this type of stuff and people have been saying this for a couple of years now at least.
Right now I have a 4k camera that does fine plus I have a trail cam to as well, but I want to get a second trail cam that records in 1080p that I could set up permanently to watch my home. All I have to do is set it up on the front door and basically the upstairs at the same time. It will record me every time I walk past it for 15 seconds or so unless I tell it to record for 30 seconds or so, but I won't have to hassle with it for a couple of months or so each time if not longer than that. All I have to do is remove the 64 GB mini sd card and delete everything (unless something happens). It probably will last me 5-6 months each time though.
I think a trail cam is honestly the best way to go right now for home security or to me personally. I just have to get another 1080p one and they are easy to set up. It doesn't have WI-FI itself and even then if it did I probably could create a custom faraday cage (DIY) at that point to go around it to prevent anyone from connecting to it and such. I prefer not to have WI-FI on any my home security devices for now at least though or any of my trail cams for that matter. As long as it's 1080p and can capture a face really well and/or a home break in for that matter.
