It's the motherboard chipset that dictates what memory to use. So, you'll be in luck as plenty will support DDR4 for a few more years, if that's what you really want. Hell, I have a recently purchased board here that supports DDR3.

Thanks I thought it was cpu. With enough luck the cpu will be compatible with chipsets that support either or both
