I don't use laptops. But my second-hand experience with them (my wife uses them) tells me that they break easily, or go out of date in only a few years, so the best policy is to buy as cheaply as possible. Who needs a ten-year-old laptop with a scratched screen that is obsolete? Or with a battery pack that won't hold a charge? My Dell tower is eleven years old. It's been regularly upgraded, so it is not out of date. I have no need to buy anything new.
My desktop is 11 years old and it's never been updated. Still runs everything just fine.

Spoken like the dude who puts a LS7 in an Astro van without any other modifications and declares it better than a 3-series BMW because it's faster in a straight line quarter mile.
Hoooookay, Grandad. You wouldn't know real PC performance if it smacked you in the fuckin' face with it's Maroon's dick pics.
