There isn't a free email that I know of that absolutely requires a real name or phone number to use, including Google. They'll ask and beg for it but it's still not a requirement. Yet.

If google feels that your identity can be somehow determined (cookies, IP, other fingerprinting), it may postpone asking for a phone number. Facebook works in a similar way. Yandex as well.
