For full self-driving? Yeah, I could see a monthly fee. Developing the software for that is probably a never ending process.

Now, is it worth $200 a month? And for $200 a month, my car better not be getting into accidents, and if it does, Tesla better be willing to pay-out all related costs because of it.

Maybe that's why it'll cost $200 a month? It's almost insurance.

No. The first quote in the article is

With Full Self-Driving (FSD) capability, you will get access to a suite of more advanced driver assistance features, designed to provide more active guidance and assisted driving under your active supervision," explains the company.

The owner is still liable for all accidents or injuries.

The whole self driving thing won't really be popular until either it is so cheap that anyone can have it or owners are not found liable for when the vehicle kills someone.

Or until the government passes some legislation like it did for vaccine manufacturers for the auto company and owner of the cars for some "environmental" reason.

Owner? What's that? Do you mean the control seat occupant and the end user / service contract holder are jointly responsible?

Good point. I guess Owner/Operator would be more accurate.

I hope they hurry up with the self Driving. I hate driving.

Sorry I'm late boss. My car drove slow.

This is where George hotz is 100% correct.

If anybody on planet Earth develops full self-driving software then we can just reverse engineer it for free.

Fuck them. Subscriptions are a racket to steal people's money.

"You will own nothing and be happy [Goyim]"

They only steal the money of the rich and stupid. It's kind of poetic.

"Service" in a nutshell. We see this with gaming already, we are seeing this with other things that people no longer truly own.

[–] 0 pt

No, they provide a service, which places liability squarely on the service provider. Fortunately for Tesla though you'll still own the car so fuck you if it kills someone.

[–] 1 pt

Of course they do. When us, the taxpayer has to subsidize idiots like wind, solar, and tesla, what do you think they will do?

Level 5 fully automated driving will never happen.

It had to do with a fundamental flaw in machine vision. No amount of programming will get it to work right.

[–] 0 pt

Can you elaborate? I bet governments will force it in order to control the masses.

Can a computer distinguish a mirror? No. Fundamentally inferior to human vision and intuition.

Robo taxis are a long long way off.

Good.

Self driving vehicles are an ethical nightmare. Providing opt-in functionality reduces the liability to Tesla significantly and charging a substantial fee provides sufficient disincentive that a sizeable number of Tesla owners will not choose to activate the functionality.

"Be our Guinea pigs for our experimental software and then we will charge you $200/mo when we feel its finished"

Cant say that I didnt see something like that coming

And they'll even toss in the 'Plow into a trash truck at full speed" option for free.
