Meanwhile the US is trying to push the solar and wind power nonsense.

I was just talking about this with my wife last night, she was talking about how shit solar was and I agreed, then she asked what the answer was, and I said "nuclear" and told her about molten salt thorium reactors.

They are trying fusion, imagine niggers running a fusion reactor. Whoops we accidentally created an ultra dense miniature sun just above the margins for which we could snuff it out by feeding it slightly too much matter, the next 500 square miles are going to become a desert global weather will be disrupted permanently and planetary temperatures will go up.

Meanwhile dog eaters know thorium salt reactor can run a city and if it fails as catastrophically as possible at most a couple square acres of land need to be sealed off for about 50 years but they are built to fail safely in principle so they aught to just melt down into a heavy container that emits no radiation and then it can get dumped into a subterranean storage site and be forgotten about. You cant even make WMDs from thorium. If the US had any damned sense we would have established an international research commission for LFTR and invited every nation including all of our enemies, and rivals 20 years ago, iran and north korea have got no excuse for enriching uranium if we make sure they have LFTR. Thorium is ultra common and though it takes about 10 x more of the stuff than uranium we have been throwing it in the trash for 400 years and globally we have about 5000x the thorium at hand than uranium.

And it's greener than the jolly green giant's giant green dick and this is how you know global warming was a put on, we had a safe, cheap, non carbon emitting fuel source and 90% of the research for making it was done 60 years ago, we just needed more corrosion resistant metal where the molten salts are otherwise the reactors need to be refitted every six or so months, and considering a thorium reactor could fit in a pickup truck that's honestly not a good excuse for not using it.

These things were initially designed to put airships in the upper atmosphere indefinitely after NASA made satellites a real possibility for us the DARPA contracts fell through, and the nuclear commision didn't want anymore responsibility in regulating the standards and so on for a new form of energy, they had also over invested in uranium and plutonium reactors and didn't want competition, the rest of the energy sector didn't want any competition either. There is a cautionary tale about capitalism here.

If not for afghanistan this would have been the chief embarrassment of our decade.

The problem with getting fusion power to work is the energy input vs output. On the sun the fusion process will happen at only a 15 million C due to the massive gravity, but on earth due to the lack of mass, you'll need to heat the hydrogen up to 100 million C for fusion to occur. That requires a lot of energy. It's not demonstrated that we can get a controlled energy positive fusion reaction on earth. Fusion energy on earth might just be a dead end.

Things that the US gov't has regulated out of existence:

  • R&D on nuclear rectors (at any scale).
  • Being a backyard chemist.
  • R&D on drones on a small (non DoD) scale.
  • Etc.

Fortunately, they haven't (yet) killed the backyard electronics or machinist (3D printing, mills, lathes, etc) hobbyists. I'm concerned that they will start regulating machinists under the guise of "keeping us safe from ghost guns".

Start? Have you seen the shit that's on the floor?

[–] 0 pt

Yep, that's exactly what I'm referring to.

[–] 3 pts

Awwww fuck. Thorium reactors are so cool. No chance of meltdown and converts "waste" radioactive crap into energy plus non radiated coal Ash.

What pisses me off is White people invented these technologies, and yet China just goes and copies it and fully benefits from our discoveries.

[–] 2 pts

Obama administration forced full technology transfer to China and India.

As usual, China's technology is bought or stolen.

[–] 1 pt

Crippling regulation pushes it elsewhere.

[–] 0 pt

Much of the research was still classified.

[–] 1 pt

They’re gonna surpass us and when it becomes the chinese world police the world will miss the us

[–] 1 pt

Oh cool, thorium can solve all our energy problems until the year 3000 or so. But entrenched capital is halting progress for profits.

[–] 0 pt

Try the year 24,000, we have so much thorium on earth but by the end of the millennium any society still advanced enough to operate them should be mining moons and other celestial bodies, and thorium is everywhere.

What could go Wong?

Can anyone get a working link?

Reactors that aren't water cooled are fucking dumb.

[–] 1 pt

Yeah, because it's great for them to not be fail-safe. Pump problem, coolant loss, coolant turns to steam = meltdown.

[–] 0 pt

Because well designed pants totally don't have massive water reservoirs above or level with the reactor cores.

[–] 0 pt

Fail-safe is better than approaches with separate safety systems to handle failure.

all data centers rely on water cooling....want to bring down big tech?

[–] 0 pt

They don't all though... I was at a data center the other day, and their servers are running, but the water cooling towers are still under construction.

[–] 0 pt

I hope when it inevitably blows up, that it does so when our top traitors are visiting it

the site for this reactor is just down the road from those new missile sites recently reported on...
