You guys spend waaaaaaaaaaaaay too much time reading into shit that is nothing.
First, douchebook was NOT started by a 3 letter. Here is the reason: anyone that has any clue knows there 100s of thousands of new web based projects every year with serious backing behind them AND MOST OF THEM FAIL. If a 3 letter actually started it there was %99.9999 percenet chance that it would have failed.
If you have any idea about how any of this shit works you would know that the 3 letters had access to Myspace, Friendster and the about a dozen of so big social media sites that came before Facebook. Facebook basically got popular for the exact same reason Digg lost all of their veiwers to Reddit: Myspace was populated by 9 years olds (and some 16 year olds making millions selling themes for Myspace pages) and Facebook offered a cleaner look and feel that attracted 16 year olds and boomers at the same time.
Instead, here is how the 3 letters ACTUALLY operate:
Do a lot of predictive modeling, test and try to build as many tools as their budgets allow.
When a commercial entity manages to do something better than what they were doing, approach the entitity and offer to get them from 300 million per year in revenue to 5 billion per year in revenue in exchange for access.
The 3 letters have access to any commercial entity that they want. The laws in all western countries allow for the military to identify commercial entities as security threats and then walk in and make them an offer they cannot refuse. Our laws literally FORBID public entitites engaged with the 3 letters, military and so forth FROM DISCLOSING THEY ARE UNDER CONTROL OF 3 LETTERS.
This whole thing the 3 letters started Facebook is retarded. Regular people don't undestand technology and have been posting personal information online since the internet existed. Kids in universities were sending email with personal information in the 80s if they had access to arpanet. In the 90s and onwards people were posting personal information online in all kinds of ways. Facebook is just the latest iteration.
Please learn how technology works.

There is no need for the 3 letters to start Facebook. All the 3 letters have been doing is building their own scraping technologies while the private sector accidentally built one for them and they just infiltrated.
I suppose it is saying the same thing but the difference is that 3 letters have access to every private sector company that they want.
They don't need to build them, they can just issue the right legal documents and voila they are in.
Easier to make private companies do all the work, pay all the bills, and take all the risk.
