couldnt you just disconnect the battery? i know its a really big battery and it is somewhere in the internals instead of the usuall little car battery most gas cars have but still

there must be a better option to deal with an electrical fire than to simply drown it in water

No way to actually get to a "battery disconnect" when the vehicle is on fire, sparking and sputtering. Some EV's have an easy to reach battery disconnect plug. A neighbor had a Nissan and there was a large plug which could be pulled, but it took a 10mm deep socket to get to it after the flap under the carpet was raised. No time for any of that when the vehicle is on fire.

One possibility rather than spraying water or foam is to cover the vehicle in sand -- they have a lot of sand bags which could be used. Maybe if the Firefighters (can't say "Firemen" any more) could get close enough.

Well they can, but you can still cause a short internally on the batter pack which is composed of multiple batteries.
