I would think the best electric setup would be a standard large engine (I6, v8,v10,v12) and a supercapacitor setup for kinetic energy recovery. With the option to plug in and charge the supercap bank when parked.

If we had supercapacitors of some sort, wouldn't we have eliminated the main problem of electric vehicles. Can't you charge a capacitor super quick?

Yes caps can charge and discharge very quickly, but they have low energy density.
